Description:
Bromelain is the name of a group of powerful protein-digesting, or proteolytic, enzymes that are found in the pineapple plant (Ananas comosus). Discovered in 1957, and widely studied since then, bromelain is particularly useful for reducing muscle and tissue inflammation and as a digestive aid.
Bromelain is a safe and nutritional alternative for maintaining healthy joints. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Units:
One GDU (Gelatin Disolving Units) is equivalent to 1.5 MCU (Milk Clotting Units)
Application in Cosmetic:
Bromelain is best known as a digestive aid and for its anti-inflammatory effects.
It hydrolyzes proteins and digests dead cells on the surface of the skin. Used mainly as an exfoliant. Classed as a protein in cosmetics, functions as a skin conditioning agent and lytic agent (lytic agents are substances that help to breakdown lipids, proteins and polysaccharides usually by enzymatic action). Lactose is used as a cosmetic ingredient as a skin conditioning agent and humectant.
